Most people are lucky to have one job they can tolerate. Dr. Scott W. Dorsey has two careers that he adores: Aviation and Choral Music.
Aviation . . . Scott is a professional aviator, having earned Airline Transport Pilot and Certified Flight Instructor-Instrument credentials. With type-ratings in the Bombardier CRJ 200 & 700/900 and the Embraer 145, he has flown for two different regional airlines under the colors of American Eagle, both as a First Officer and a Captain. Scott now devotes his time exclusively to teaching people to fly. He also melds scholarship with his fondness for things with wings, having published aviation articles in Private Pilot and Plane & Pilot magazines.
Choral Music . . . Beyond his current aviation endeavors, Scott has enjoyed a long career as a choral conductor. He has performed extensively, including 49 of the 50 United States and overseas, with those choirs under his baton earning critical acclaim. As a collegiate music professor, he has served on numerous music faculties, including those at Montana State University-Billings, Mount Union College, the University of Northern Iowa, Vennard College, and William Penn College. He also served the choral art on the national staff of the American Choral Directors Association (ACDA) as the Director of Education, the only person to fill that role. An accomplished writer, he has published several hundred articles in various choral publications, and well over one thousand articles on-line. He has also produced a variety of one-of-a-kind digital resources for the choral educator.
Scott earned the Doctor of Musical Arts degree in Performance and Pedagogy from the University of Iowa, the Master of Arts degree in Choral Conducting from California State University-Stanislaus, and the Bachelor of Arts degree in Voice from Nebraska Wesleyan University.
